Ditching

Bringing an aircraft meant for land down in water is a one-time affair.

You get one chance to get it right and save lives. Fortunately for airline passengers, the chances your pilot will need to have the skill and judgment to succeed at the task are infinitesimal. That club is so small, it’s worth remembering who the members are. Certainly Sully Sullenberger, played by Tom Hanks in “Sully” is currently top of the list, but worth remembering too is Pan Am Captain Dick Ogg, who had to ditch his Boeing B-377 in the open ocean in 1956.
